One of the advantages of using GRP is the maximum operating temperature of 177⁰, when compared to a typical plastic muffler which has a max or around 70⁰. As the GRP is able to handle higher temperatures, it becomes less likely for you to burn out your exhaust muffler if the exhaust is starved of water (due to a bag being sucked up the raw water inlet, or if an impeller fails, for example). They are also very cost effective and resistant to salt water, so they won’t corrode.
Centek are a world-renowned American manufacturer of fire-retardant GRP exhaust components, who have built a reputation for superior quality, design and customer service for over 50 years. They offer an extensive range of mufflers, waterlocks, check valves, gas and water separators, outlets and exhaust pipe connectors tailored for use in marine wet exhaust systems.
Alongside their vast, standard range of products, they also offer the option to design and build bespoke components to suit personal requirements, coping with engines to 2500BHP.
All of their products are manufactured to meet ISO9001 specifications, in addition to meeting UL Listed, ABS, ABYC and Lloyds Register certifications.
Waterlock Mufflers
These were originally designed for sailing boat installations where the engine is located near or below the waterline, to prevent water from the exhaust system feeding back to the engine and entering the manifold. However, when the quieting capabilities of these units was recognised, they were also commonly used in all types of engine installation to muffle the sound of the exhaust, creating a more pleasurable boating experience.
Mufflers
These units are designed to reduce exhaust noise in almost any application, from ski boats to commercial vessels. An added advantage is that they are a more compact unit, ideal for when space is limited, and provide excellent sound deadening performance. They can only be installed on applications where the engine is located above the water line.
Check Valves
Designed to be fitted towards the end of the exhaust system to prevent water entering the engine from waves hitting the stern of the boat. Another excellent component to add piece of mind when motoring or sailing at sea.
Gas & Water Separators (Gen-Sep)
The Gen-Sep units are designed to prevent noise from water splash out of the exhaust, the gas and water are separated leaving the gas to exit silently above the water line and the water exits below. These should be used in conjunction with a Centek Vernalift muffler and are ideal to eliminate the noise of water splash from generators or engines on an overnight mooring.
Hose Connectors (Vernatubes)
Centek also offer an extensive range of fire-retardant GRP exhaust tubes, to give you the freedom of setting up your exhaust system around the tight spaces of the engine room. From straight 1.5 or 3 metres lengths to 45°, 90° & 180° elbows, there is a solution to almost every application.
