The Thornycroft 108 is a 4 cylinder, 4 stroke, vertical, inline 1.799L diesel engine. The Thornycroft 108 is a 4 cylinder, 4 stroke, vertical, inline 1.799L diesel engine. Based on the BMC1800 B series engine block, Thornycroft marinised this in two versions. The Thornycroft 108 was heat exchanger cooled, and can be found in many inland and in shore boats. It was a popular commercial engine in small fishing boats, due to the Leyland van spares availability and pricing. The Thornycroft 108E was keel cooled for Inland Canal use.

The Thornycroft 108 was marinised in various forms, from the early MKI with cast small camshaft, the 108/2 with the modified block and larger cam profile, to the last 108/2R engines, based on the Leyland recon engine program. The engine was then built in Turkey, and there are a few changes in certain parts which cannot be fitted to the British built units.
