Requests for Thornycroft spares should always be accompanied by the engine number / build list. The Thornycroft 152 is a 4 cylinder, 4 stroke, vertical, inline 2.5L diesel engine, based on the naturally aspirated Ford FSD425 - the industrial version of the direct injection Ford 2.5 Transit engine. The 152 engine was produced in heat exchanger or keel cooled versions, and proved a popular power plant in small semi displacement fishing boats as well as being a popular choice for lifeboats. Thornycroft never marinised the earlier 2.4 York engine, but certain spares are interchangeable and the Thornycroft 152 often found itself replacing the "York" based units. The camshaft is belt driven, like many modern engines; it is important to ensure that cam belt inspection / replacement is part of your regular maintenance schedule. From the MS-02-152 Thornycroft leaflet, ratings are as follows: 1500RPM 23BHP 5.73LPH, 2000RPM 34BHP 8.18LPH, 2500RPM 45BHP 10.6LPH, 3000RPM 55BHP 12LPH. Intermittent rating is shown as 70BHP.
