The Thornycroft 110 is a 4 cylinder, 4 stroke, vertical, inline 1.753L diesel engine, based on the Ford XLD418 - the industrial version of the later Escort/Orion/Fiesta 1.8 engine.

This engine was most popular in the Heat Exchanger cooled configuration, with only a few being sold suitable for Keel Cooled installations such as for Inland Canal use.

The 110 engine replaced the Thornycroft 98, but was never sold in large numbers. The extra power did help with heavier / larger sailing boat installations.

The camshaft is belt driven; this was less popular with owners used to older chain driven technologies. It is important to ensure that cam belt inspection / replacement is part of your maintenance schedule.

From the last Thornycroft 110 leaflet we have, ratings are as follows:

1500RPM 20BHP 3.1LPH, 2000RPM 30BHP 6.8LPH, 2500RPM 39BHP 8.6LPH, 3000RPM 46BHP 10.4LPH, 3500RPM 51BHP 12.2LPH, 4000RPM 56BHP 13.6LPH.

Intermittent rating is shown as 56BHP.
